United Way Agency Partner Crossroads Health on Mental Health and the Services they Provide to our Community

Crossroads Health is more than just a provider of mental health and primary healthcare services. They are a community partner that cares about the health and well-being of their clients and neighbors. This focus is critically important today as we all navigate the post-COVID realities in our current local and global environments of ever-increasing change.

Like the world around us, Crossroads Health continues to evolve to better serve its community with better outcomes for all. For instance, just this past month, Crossroads Health achieved a special federal award. James Wyman, Chief Development Officer at Crossroads Health, states, “We are pleased to announce that the United States Department of Health and Human Services Administration / Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded Crossroads Health the designation of ‘Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike.’” Tonya Bowers, Deputy Associate Administrator, Bureau of Primary Health Care Health Resources and Services Administration states, “We are excited about the work you have been doing in your community and your ongoing commitment to improving the health of the populations you serve.”

This award designation is an affirmation of their community-based services and programs offered in partnership with United Way Lake County and The Lake County ADAMHS Board, just to name two. Crossroads Health has expanded its commitment to meeting client needs at any hour of any day—wherever they are, no matter the circumstances or ability to pay. This is particularly important to seniors, veterans, and their families, and to children and adults who may not have the resources to travel or have access to technology for online support.

A mother of two young boys on the autism spectrum recently shared her feelings about Crossroads Health’s Early Childhood Services staff and her experience with Early Head Start.

“I want my kids to have the best of the best, but the day that Jackie came to our house changed everything. Jackie is amazing and once I saw my son interact with Jackie—that was it! My boys would not be where they are today without her.”

Crossroads Health has been serving Lake County and the surrounding areas for five decades, providing trauma-informed, evidence-based services that change lives and impact communities. Whether it’s counseling, medication management, case management, peer support, or wellness education, Crossroads Health offers programs and services to meet the individual needs and preferences of each person.

One of the unique features of Crossroads Health is its integration of behavioral health and primary healthcare. This allows clients to receive coordinated care for their physical and mental health needs in one convenient place.

Dean Visk, Director of Integrated Healthcare at Crossroads Health, states, “Integrated care is a holistic approach that addresses the whole person. It helps clients improve their overall health outcomes, reduce stigma, and access services more easily.” Some of the benefits of integrated care include:

  • Improved communication and collaboration between providers
  • Reduced duplication of services and tests
  • Increased adherence to treatment plans
  • Enhanced prevention and early intervention
  • Lower costs and better use of resources
  • Better patient outcomes

Crossroads Health also offers specialized treatment for chemically dependent adolescents through its New Directions service area. New Directions is the only substance use adolescent residential treatment facility in Northeast Ohio. New Directions provides comprehensive care for teens struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues.

The vision of Crossroads Health is to be the innovative leader for trauma-informed, personalized care and recovery support. Its core values are commitment to clients, belonging, collaboration, excellence, empathy, tenacity, and integrity.
