United Way of Lake County to Distribute Free Fresh Milk January 24, 2019 to Residents in Need.
January 15, 2019 – Mentor, OH – In partnership with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, United Way of Lake County (UWLC) will be distributing free fresh milk to those in need on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 3 pm – 6 pm.
The distribution will take place at United Way of Lake County’s office at 9285 Progress Parkway in Mentor (off Route 2 & Heisley Rd.).
UWLC anticipates it will have approximately 432 crates of skim and 1% milk for distribution, which breaks down to about 3,888 individual half-gallons of milk.
Milk will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Residents should bring a photo ID along with bags or boxes to carry the milk. Income eligibility guidelines apply.
Representatives from the Greater Cleveland Food bank will be on-site to help oversee client intake and the distribution process. Outreach staff will also be available to help sign-up any families in need of SNAP benefits (Supplemental Food Assistance Program).

A total of 25,410 Lake County residents live with food insecurity, which is 11% of the population. A total of 17% of Lake County children suffer from food insecurity.
“Fighting hunger is one of our main priorities at United Way of Lake County and we’re proud to be able to partner with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to bring milk to Lake County residents in need,” said Jennifer McCarty, President and CEO of United Way of Lake County.
According to Tami Lewis, UWLC Marketing and Communications Director, “Last year we collected and distributed enough food for over 230,00 meals to help feed Lake County’s hungry, but our work is never done. We continue to rely on the generosity of donors within our community to help feed our hungry and are currently gearing up for the start of our 27th Annual Feed Lake County Food Drive and Fundraiser, slated to kickoff March 1st.”
