Women United to Host September 10 Cyber Scams & Threats Speaker Series
Mentor, OH (August 24, 2026) – Online scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and no one is immune. Women United of United Way of Lake County is hosting an informative Speaker Series, “Cyber Scams & Threats: Protecting You & Yours,” on the evening of Thursday, September 10, designed to help adults better protect themselves, their parents, grandparents and other loved ones from online fraud and cyber threats.
The event will take place from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Paradigm at Mentor High School, 6465 Center St. A boxed dinner will be provided.
Panelists include Judge Mark J. Bartolotta of the Lake County Probate Court; Officer Dan Radigan of the Mentor Police Department; and Connie Brocone, LSW, Community Outreach Social Worker with the Lake County Council on Aging.
Practical information and resources to help attendees recognize and respond to online fraud will be covered, including:
- What scams are happening right now
- How scammers specifically target older adults
- Warning signs everyone should know
- Simple steps to protect personal information, finances and online accounts
- What to do if you or someone you know has been impacted by an online scam, including where to turn for help and how to respond
The discussion will be moderated by Kristina Willey, PhD, a Women United member and Director of Strategic Growth & Organizational Development at Griffin Technology Group.
“With constant changes in technology, it can be difficult to know what is real and what isn't,” said United Way President & CEO Dione DeMitro. “This Women United Speaker Series is an educational opportunity to hear directly from experts who can help individuals and families recognize the warning signs, protect themselves, and know what to do if they become a victim.”
The cost is $25 per person, or $20 for Women United members. A boxed dinner is included. Advance registration is required at uwlc.org/cyber-scams.
Women United is an affinity group of United Way of Lake County that brings women together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and children in Lake County. To learn more about them and their work, visit uwlc.org/women-united.
